Materials

Rubbertech manufacture rubber mouldings in a variety of materials and as such material selection is important.

The material selected should consider the type of rubber moulding, design, operational and environmental conditions and requirements. Below are some of the common materials we mould with and a brief description.

Silicone

• Excellent low and high temperature operating range
• Excellent UV & weathering and water resistance properties
• Easily colour matched to Pantone and RAL colour references
• Can be supplied meeting FDA, Medical, WRAS and UL approvals
• Silicone is not suitable for contact with concentrated acids, oils and fuels

EPDM

• Good low temperature range
• Excellent Ozone and weathering properties making it low cost silicone alternative
• Excellent water resistance
• Limited colour range
• Not suitable for contact with fuels and oils

Neoprene

• Good low temperature properties
• Excellent UV, Ozone and good water resistance
• Good Oil and chemical resistance
• Flame retardant
• Limited colour range

Nitrile

• Excellent abrasion and tear resistance
• Excellent resistance to petroleum oils, mineral oils and vegetable oils
• Good adhesion to metals for over moulding
• Good water resistance

Natural Rubber

• Low cost material
• Excellent low temperature range
• Excellent abrasion and tear resistance
• Excellent adhesion to metal for over moulding
• Very good water resistance
• Poor UV and weathering resistance
• Poor resistance to oils and solvents

Viton

• Excellent high temperature range
• Excellent UV and weathering resistance
• Excellent resistance to aggressive fuels and chemicals
• Flame resistant

Fluorosilicone

• Excellent temperature range
• Excellent UV and weathering resistance
• Excellent oil and solvent resistance
• Flame resistant
• Good water resistance
